IMF to launch another financial support program for Tajikistan

Almaty. October 2. Silkroadnews – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) intends to launch a new program in Tajikistan to support the state’s financial stability, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports on Monday.
At the last week meeting the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) and the IMF mission headed by Ms. Padamja Khandelwal considered opportunities to launch a new support program for Tajikistan (on credit mechanism expansion), the NBT reported.
During the meeting, Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda, chairman of the NBT, noted, it is planned to make a number of amendments to legislation of the national banking system to cooperate with the Fund on new programs. He stressed, the amendments regulator worked on have been submitted for consideration by Tajikistan’s government.
The head of the IMF mission said about Fund’s readiness to expand cooperation on areas of priority for Tajikistan, which, she added, play an important role in ensuring financial stability and development of the nation’s economy. P. Khandelwal noted, to be approved the new NBT program should define the specific priority areas that need support. She added, as soon as the documents are submitted, the Fund will study then at the highest level.
It should be noted, the approval and launch of the new support program for Tajikistan have been considered by the IMF for the last four years. The republic has been seeking to raise $500 million support of the Fund.
The Fund’s officials repeatedly said the arrangements on a new three-year program to follow the previous one to be reached in the near future.
