In Tajikistan, social programs will support people with disabilities

Almaty. August 17. Silkroadnews - In Tajikistan considered the Social Security program for people with disabilities, whose share of the total population now stands at 2%, the Tajik news agency (TaikTA).
The project have been developing during a year by Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan with technical support of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as a working group of representatives of organizations of people with disabilities and international and national NGOs.
At present, the Tajik government is funding the vast majority of existing services for people with disabilities, including the establishment of steady and unsteady type and day care. The list of services for people with disabilities has increased in recent years, however, as noted, there are significant shortcomings in their qualitative and quantitative in terms of coverage of the needy.
Among the challenges identified - limited funding of the health sector, such as the rehabilitation and social protection of people with disabilities and their families; their low socio-economic level, limited legislative framework to support this population.
