In Uzbekistan 1.7 million people suffer from malnutrition

Tashkent. September 19. Silkroadnews - In Uzbekistan, 1.7 million people currently suffer from malnutrition, according to the report of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
According to FAO, in the last 14  years the number of people suffering from malnutrition has decreased from 3.6 million to 1.7 million people in Uzbekistan.
"Despite the good progress made over the past two decades, and ever expanding favorable conditions, the full potential of agriculture and food security for all - not yet achieved," - told reporters FAO Representative in Uzbekistan Yuriko Shoji..
Earlier, the government of Uzbekistan has stated that the country has generated substantial stocks of grain and food essentials: meat, vegetable oil, sugar and rice. Since independence, the volume of agricultural production in the country as a whole has increased by more than twice, which, in spite of increase of population by nearly 10 million, allowed to increase consumption of meat by 1.3 times, milk and dairy products - 1.6 times, potatoes - by 1.7 times, vegetables - more than 2 times, and fruits - almost 4 times.
According to official figures, today Uzbekistan annually produces about 16 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables, per capita production is provided by about 300 kg of vegetables, 75 kg of potatoes, 44 kg of grapes, which is about 3 times higher than the optimal consumption rates.
