Almaty. August 23. Silkroadnews – India should not send troops to Afghanistan, defense expert PK Sehgal believes, One India news portal wrote.
India should not send its troops to join American or NATO forces in Afghanistan as it would be detrimental to Indian interest in the long run, P.K. Segal said.
At the same time, it is noted that, according to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, India shares the U.S. concern, being a firm supporter of rendering assistance to Afghanistan in reconstruction and development.
“We welcome President Trump's determination to enhance efforts to overcome challenges facing Afghanistan and confronting issues of safe havens and other forms of cross-border support enjoyed by terrorists. India shares these concerns and objectives”, the statement said. “We are committed to supporting government and people of Afghanistan in their efforts to bring peace, security, stability and prosperity in their country”, it added.
As the publication reminds, earlier D. Trump said that since India gets billions of dollars due to trade with the US, it should render more assistance in the issues of Afghanistan. Though there is no clear explanation of what kind of assistance is specifically involved, it is assumed that the U.S. wants India to send its troops to Afghanistan to fight the Taliban.
