India to allocate $1 billion to support Afghanistan's development

Almaty. September 15. Silkroadnews – India will provide $1 billion to contribute to Afghanistan's support and development, AfTAG writes.

«India will allocate $1 billion to support united, sovereign, democratic, peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan. We will also contribute to further deepen our bilateral cooperation», Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after talks with the Afghan president Ashraf Ghani arriving in New Delhi with official visit.

The two sides discussed the situation in the region, expressed their serious concern at the continuing use violence and terrorism for political goals achievement and agreed this state of affairs represents the greatest threat to the stability and progress throughout the world.

They have also signed a number of agreements on mutual extradition of criminally prosecuted persons and cooperation in civil and commercial issues, as well as a memorandum on cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space.

Prime Minister of India expressed his readiness to consider further requests of Afghanistan in such areas as education, health, agriculture, technical and vocational education, empowerment of women, energy, infrastructure development and strengthening of democratic institutions. He offered to deliver world-class medical supplies at low prices and establish cooperation in the field of solar energy on the basis of mutually agreed instruments.

The sides also discussed the facilitation of the tripartite agreement with Afghanistan, India and Iran signed in May 2016 on the port of Chabahar and related transport corridor project development.
