Almaty. March 24. Silkroadnews - World population will reach 10 billion by 2056, “Finance and Development” journal of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) informs.

“According to the middle-option forecasts of the United Nations Population Division, based on the assumption that the fertility dynamics will vary due to the previous periods trends and characteristics, in 2024 the world population will exceed 8 billion people, in 2038 - 9 billion people and in 2056 - 10 billion people,” - said the article by professor of economics and demography, Department of Global Health and Population at Harvard University, David Bloom published in the journal.

It is noted that 99% of the population growth will be observed in less developed countries.

“Ninety-nine percent of the projected population growth within the next four decades will come from countries classified as less developed – i.e. countries of Africa, Asia (except for Japan), Latin America and the Caribbean, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. Now Africa is a home to one-sixth of the world population, but between now and 2050 it will account for 54% of the world’s population growth,” - the article stated.

In addition, it is reported that in 2022 India will surpass China to become world’s most populous nation and the Nigerian population will total almost 400 million people ranking the country the third in the world in terms of population, surpassing Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan and USA.

At the same time 18 countries, mainly of Eastern Europe, including Russia, will run into population reduction of 10% or higher.

At the same time the reports indicate a slowdown in the global population growth.

“Despite these rising numbers, the population growth has begun to slow down for the recent years. The overall population growth declines and is forecasted to continue to decline in the world as a whole and in each geographic region. From now until 2050 the population growth in general is expected to drop by a half,” - the article said.
