Inmates convicted of extremism will be isolated from the rest of prison population in Kyrgyzstan
Almaty. August 25. Silkroadnews – Special prison units where supporters of radical religious movements to be isolated from other prisoners will be created in prison colonies of Kyrgyzstan, KyrTAG writes.
«The Parliament of the Republic has introduced some changes into the law, according to which extremists and terrorists shall be isolated from other prison population. Behind such a decision there are the results of the analytical work showing the adherents of radical ideas used to influence other inmates and recruit them to the terror group through active propaganda», said the chairman of Kyrgyzstan's State Department for the Execution of Sentences Taalaibek Zhaparov during his meeting with the British Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Robin Ord-Smith.
He also added, at present the special prison units are organized on the base of four corrections facilities of the republic.
According to T. Zhaparov, there are about a hundred of prisoners convicted of religious extremism and terrorism retained in the colonies of the republic and assigned to a special category of prisoners.
For his part, the ambassador noted that the British society, as well as other countries of the world, pays deliberate attention to the problem of radicalization and stressed that the embassy «will try to support the penitentiary system of Kyrgyzstan addressing the issues in case as far as possible».
