Interim president has been appointed in Uzbekistan

Almaty. September 8. Silkroadnews – Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has taken charge as the country's interim president, Uzbek Telegraph Agency (UzTAG) reported.

The appointment, the report said, took place on Thursday at the joint meeting of the legislative chamber and senate of Oliy Majlis (upper and lower chambers of the parliament).

To remind, on September 2 Uzbekistan announced the death of President Islam Karimov after suffering a stroke. The first president of the republic ruling the country for over 26 years was buried in his homeland in Samarkand on September 3. The state commission for the organization of the funeral was led by S. Mirziyoyev.

Prime Minister of Uzbekistan S. Mirziyoyev was born in 1957. Graduate of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture he served as a khokim (head of administration) of Mirzo-Ulugbek district of Tashkent, then headed the administration of the Jizzakh and Samarkand regions. Since 2003 he served as the Prime Minister of the Republic. According to the results of the parliamentary elections in January 2015, he was re-appointed as the head of the government of Uzbekistan.
