Iran and Iraq have agreed to strengthen protection of the common borders

Almaty. April 24. Silkroadnews - Iran and Iraq agreed to strengthen military cooperation along the common borders, informs the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG) on Friday.
Agreement on cooperation in the field of state border between the two countries was signed after a meeting of Iran commander of frontier troops Brigadier General Qassem Rezai and his Iraqi counterpart, Major-General Abdul Karim Mustafa.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has a common border with Iraq, stretching over 1,600 km. Its security can be achieved only through coordination and cooperation", - said K.Rezai after the signing ceremony.
Iranian General also expressed satisfaction that among the various political forces, the neighboring state has developed an understanding of the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of Iraq, as well as the unity of its people.
In addition, he welcomed the recent successes of the Iraqi government forces against the LIH in the battles for the liberation of the captured militants territories and localities of the country.
However, commenting on the likelihood of breakthrough Iran-Iraq border by militants of LIH, the head of the Iranian border guards said that to date there have been no similar case. He added that "we know, they just do not dare to approach the Iranian soil at close distance".
