Iran got observer status in the Eurasian Group on combating the financing of terrorism

Almaty. June 9. Silkroadnews – An observer status has been granted to Iran and the Eurasian Economic Commission within the Eurasian Group on combating money laundering and financing of terrorism, the EAG executive secretary Vladimir Nechayev states, KazTAG reports.

“Iran and the Eurasian Economic Commission have been granted an observer status,” V. Nechayev said at the 24th EAG plenary meeting in Astana on Thursday.

He also added due to the lack of resources to participate in the EAG in a broader format Germany revoked it observer status.

“They have requested to revoke their observer status. The decision has been made. With all other observers unchanged Germany is excluded from the observers in the EAG,” he said and noted in case the observer does not participate in the EAG activities for 2 years, the plenary session is authorized to raise the issue of keeping or revoking its observer status.

Being a FATF-style regional body EAG includes nine member states of the Eurasian space: Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

EAG plenary meeting is held in Astana on June 9-10. Along with the EAG member states 15 other countries and 18 international organizations take part in the meeting as observers.
