Iran intends to import about 2 million tons of wheat this year

Almaty. June 17. Silkroadnews - Iran intends to import up to 2 million tons of wheat this year, informs the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG).
According to Deputy Minister of Agricultural Jihad Ali Qanbar, this year (ends on March 20, 2016), the country's demand for wheat will be about 11 million tonnes, of which from the local state farmers have been bought 2.6 million tons.
A. Qanbar added that the government has allocated additional funds amounting to about $3 billion to buy another 7.7 million tons of wheat from Iranian farmers.
It is expected that this year, the state will purchase approximately 1 million tons of wheat more than last year. Thus, taking into account the needs of the current year, the Iranian authorities are planning to import 1.5 to 2 million tons of wheat from abroad.
