Almaty. May 26. Silkroadnews – Iran plans to create a new transit route, an alternative to the route passing through Turkey, to deliver goods from the Gulf region to Europe, Deputy Managing Director of “Iranian Railways” Hussein Ashuri says, IrTAG reports.

Taking into account the tension in relations between Ankara and Moscow, Iran proposed a new rail transit route to link the Gulf region and Europe via the Black Sea, said H.Ashuri.

According to him, Iran will hold talks on this issue with Georgia and Azerbaijan. He also said Iran offers to transport cargo from the Gulf region to Azerbaijan and then to Georgia by rail, from there on it can be transported from the ports of Batumi and Poti to the ports in Bulgaria and Romania, and then to other European countries.

As the construction of the railway Rasht-Astara is not completed yet, at this site of the route the cargo can be transported with trucks. He also added, the transportation of goods from the region of the Persian Gulf to Europe via a new route shall take up to 23 days not 45.

H.Ashuri believes that the proposed route does not have any serious alternatives. According to him, the trade turnover between the Russian Federation and India is on a high level, and the cargo between the two countries is carried out by sea.

The new route will be beneficial to both countries, said the representative of “Iranian Railways”, having added that the talks in this regard have been held with the officials of Azerbaijan and Russia on the extension of a new route to Moscow, and from there to Finland.
