Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced detention of people behind unrests
Almaty. January 3. Silkroadnews - Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced detention of people behind unrests, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reported referring to Tasnim News Agency.
“Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced that its forces have identified and detained a number of elements behind the recent unrests in the country, saying other agents will be arrested in coming days,” the report reads.
According to the ministry, some of the peaceful gatherings held in recent days to express the public demands took the form of riots that have led to the casualties and damage to state property due to actions of aggressive instigators and provocateurs.
“Some cities of Iran witnessed rallies over the past days in protest at price hikes and economic woes,” the publication says.
The police arrested several demonstrators who, during rallies, tried to damage public property.
According to Article 27 of the Iranian Constitution, “public gatherings and marches are allowed so long as the participants do not carry arms and are not in violation of the fundamental principles of Islam.”
After the civil rallies, some Western and Arab media tried to portray the protests as a political uprising against the existing political system.
Iranian officials affirm, the citizens have the right to hold protests and express their opinions as long as this complies with the law.
