Almaty. December 6. Silkroadnews - Iran is ready to resume trade relations with Kurdistan, the Iranian news agency reported with reference to Fars News Agency.
According to Chairman of Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al-Eshaq, Iran’s borders with Iraqi Kurdistan are re-opening one by one, and the situation is being returned to normal, the agency wrote.
He confirmed, the necessary level of security has been ensured in the Iraqi region of Kurdistan after the September referendum, thus, the Iranian businessmen can return to the northern region of Iraq.
Speaking about Iranian-Iraqi economic cooperation, Al-Eshaq said Iran’s exports to the neighboring country increased 6% in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-September 21).
During this period, Iran’s exports to the Iraqi markets has exceeded $3.2 billion, which indicates the country could keep a record volume of exports of goods.
He also said that Iraq is the second destination for the Iranian products after China.
Answering the question on Turkey taking advantage of a conflict in Kurdistan to develop a trade exchange with the Kurds in Northern Iraq, the official said that it is “just a rumor”.
The referendum on independence was approved by the Kurdistan local parliament in Iraq, despite tough objections from the federal government in Baghdad and warnings from neighboring countries on possible consequences. Less than a month later, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi stated the September 25 referendum had become a “history”.
