Iran told IAEA of its plans to build nuclear reactors for ships
Almaty. February 23. KazTAG - The Iranian authorities have told the experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of their intention to build nuclear reactors for ships, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports with reference to TASS.
As Reuters reported referring to the IAEA, the Iranian authorities had informed the agency of a “decision that has been taken to construct naval nuclear propulsion in future”.
In turn the IAEA required the details of the project to be specified in terms of the proposed construction of new plants and infrastructure, yet no clarification has been received so far, the report said.
To remind, on July 14, 2015, Tehran and the 5+1 (the UN Security Council’s five permanent members and Germany) reached an agreement to resolve the long-standing problem of Iran’s nuclear energy by adopting a joint comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA). The beginning of the plan realization was announced on January 16, 2016.
In particular, it provides for removal of sanctions imposed on Iran related to its nuclear program by the UN Security Council, US and EU. In turn, Tehran committed to reduce its nuclear activities putting it under international control.
