Almaty. April 8. Silkroadnews - Iran will connect to the gas transit to Europe via the Trans gas pipeline (TANAP), transmits the newspaper "Kommersant".
"The Iranian gas is supplied to Turkey via Tabriz-Ankara with capacity of 14 billion cubic meters per year. This highway was planned as part of a larger project - pipeline "Pars", which was intended to link the gas field of South Pars to Europe through Turkey, Greece and Italy, and then divided into two branches: the north, leading to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and the south, leading to France and Spain. Capacity of the project, which was never implemented due to sanctions imposed on Tehran, estimated at 37 billion cubic meters. In 2008, Iranian and Turkish officials signed a memorandum on strengthening cooperation on the project "Pars", - says the publication.
Turkish Energy Minister confirmed that he intends to discuss with Iranian counterparts prospects of transport of Iranian gas via Turkey.
According to experts, in the case of the lifting of sanctions by 2020 Iran will be able to produce up to 215 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, and export - up to 35 billion cubic meters, including up to 20 billion cubic meters to the Europe.
The Turkish leadership has also previously stated that they consider Iran as a potential participant of Trans gas pipeline (TANAP) - highways, providing transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to Turkey's border and Europe. At the same time, the Turkish authorities announced that "this project should not be seen as a rival of "Turkish flow"- the project of gas pipeline from Russia to Turkey.
Thus, it became known that the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR is considering a proposal for the sale to Iran of its share in TANAP. And the president of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev spoke about lifting sanctions against Tehran as a fait accompli.
"After the decision on lifting sanctions against Iran relevance of TANAP has grown even more", - he said.
