Iran will open gas pipeline to Iraq
Almaty. January 23. Silkroadnews – Gas pipeline from Iran to Iraq will be opened on January 23, Trend reports.
As the spokesman of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Majid Boujarzadeh, said, the gas exports to Iraq will not start in the coming days though.
Iran has already pumped gas into the pipeline and is ready to begin its supplies to the neighboring country, yet, for technical reasons, the Iraqi side is not ready to receive gas so far, he added.
Earlier, Iran’s Deputy Petroleum Minister for International Affairs and Trading Amir-Hossein Zamaniniya said the gas supplies to Iraq to start as soon as the financial issues are resolved.
Under the current contract, Iran is expected to exported to Iraq 35 million cubic meters of gas per day for 6 years.
Two neighboring countries also agreed to export 25 million cubic meters of gas in Basra, Iraq: however, the pipelines have not yet been laid to export gas there.
