Beijing. February 23. Silkroadnews - Irish company ABP, owned by Larry Goodman, has signed the first in the country contract to supply Irish beef to China, ahead of the widely anticipated opening of a huge Asian market for Irish meat products, Independent.ie reports.
Reportedly, the ABP Food Group signed a three-year agreement to supply beef to the Chinese restaurant chain Wowprime for €50 million even before the Irish exporters received the green light for the access to the Chinese market.
Mark Goodman, managing director of the international division of ABP, said, the company has concluded an exclusive agreement to supply beef to Wowprime chain that has more than 400 restaurants in China and Taiwan.
The ABP Food Group reported the contract will also be extended to its partners in the joint venture Slaney Foods, but everything will still depend on gaining access to the Chinese market.
China is already the world’s second-biggest beef importer and the beginning of deliveries of Irish beef will be a major win in this industry. Irish officials recently visited China to discuss the possibility of long-term cooperation in this field.
