Italy to build a hydroelectric power plant in the Afghan province of Farah

Almaty. June 21. Silkroadnews – Afghanistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water has signed a contract for the construction of “Bashim Abad” HPP in the province of Farah, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reports.

The $450 million project is expected to be realized within the next 18 months. The hydroelectric power plant is expected to produce up to 27 MW of electricity. It will also allow irrigating of more than 4 thousand hectares of farmland in the five counties of the province.

Ali Ahmad Osmani, Minister of Energy and Water, appealed to the Afghan government with a strong recommendation to include the rational use of water resources in the list of its top priorities and speed up the project implementation. He also said the sub-contractors whose work on the project is not highly-efficient will be immediately excluded from the construction work.
