Japan and China launched a mechanism to prevent incidents at sea and in air
Beijing. June 8. Silkroadnews - On Friday Japan and China launched a bilateral mechanism to prevent incidents at sea and in the air in accordance with the agreement reached in early May following the meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Premier of the State Council of China Li Keqiang, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference TASS.
The bilateral mechanism implies that if the ships or aircraft of Japan and China, particularly in the border areas, converge, the parties can directly communicate with each other in accordance with the international rules of such communication and avoid a possible incident.
The creation of a direct communication channel is mainly aimed at resolving the situation in the East China Sea, where Beijing and Tokyo are in dispute over the Senkaku Islands (Diaoyu Islands). The dispute escalated after the Japanese government “nationalized” these territories in September 2012, which earlier belonged to private Japanese owners. Such a move caused a wave of indignation in the PRC, which led to a serious deterioration in bilateral relations.
