Japan has contributed $3.5 million to fight drug trafficking in Afghanistan

Almaty. April 9. Silkroadnews - The Government of Japan has announced the allocation of $3.5 million to Afghanistan to fight drug trafficking, reported Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
"The funds will be transferred through the corresponding entity in the United Nations (UNODC). The money will be spent on training for regional departments to combat drug traffiking, familiarize farmers with alternative crops, to therapy addicts Afghans, regional cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking",- said in a statement.
Also planned to create a focal point, which will deal with international crimes in Central Asia.
As noted, Afghanistan has a very high percentage of drug addicts - WHO estimates that more than 1,26 million inhabitants, or about 4% of the total population are drug addicted. At the same time, production and traffic of drugs  has increased several times over the years for being there forces of the Western alliance - ISAF.
