Japan introduces 10-year multiple entry visas for Chinese citizens

Almaty. May 17. Silkroadnews – Japan introduces 10-year multiple entry visas for Chinese citizens, China Daily information portal writes.

“The government of Japan continues to ease visa requirements for Chinese citizens in the framework of its plan to attract 40 million foreign tourists by 2020. The plan was adopted by the Ministerial Council on the Promotion of Japan as a tourism-oriented country. The new visa rules are expected to be introduced by this summer,” the statement said on Tuesday.

It is also noted that multi-entry visas will be extended to 10 years, particularly for Chinese businessmen, academics and artists. Visa requirements for certain applicants will also be lowered. Previously, multiple-entry individual visas were issued to high-income Chinese tourists with a 5-year validity.

Visa regime for students will also be simplified.

“Meanwhile, single-entry visa application procedures will also be simplified for students from 75 universities under the direct supervision of the Chinese Ministry of Education. These include registered undergraduates and post-graduates, as well as alumni who graduated from the 75 schools within 3 years,” says the publication.

According to the newspaper, Japan remains one of the most popular foreign tourist destination for the Chinese citizens. According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, last year the number of Chinese tourists more than doubled and reached 5 million people. At the same time Chinese tourists have accounted for more than 40% of the total spending of all foreign tourists visiting Japan in 2015.

Reportedly, the visa can also be simplified for citizens of Russia and India.

It is noted that earlier some other countries have already introduced 10-year visas for Chinese citizens. In particular, in November 2014 the US government also started issuing 10-year multiple entry visas the citizens of China. At present, the United Kingdom and Australia also consider the extension of their visa validity to 10 years.
