Japan will allocate $17.5 million to Tajikistan to maintain the Sogd and Khatlon roads

Almaty. May 6. Silkroadnews – Japan is going to allocate $17.5 million to Tajikistan to maintain the roads of Sogd and Khatlon, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports.

“The grant agreement for the project on providing the roads of Sogd province and eastern part of Khatlon region with the modern equipment for repair and maintenance was signed between Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and government of the Republic of Tajikistan late April,” the embassy informs.

The government of Japan, as reported, has provided the grant in the amount of 1 billion 992 million Japanese yen ($17.5 million) on asphalt plants and equipment and machinery for the roads maintenance.

It is expected that provision of modern equipment for this project will allow the country to ensure the high quality repair works of transport arteries and due maintenance of the road network in the region.

The grant agreement realization, as expected, shall result in improvement of the road network capacity to transport goods and people, even during the natural hazards and in winter season.
