Japan will finance demining in the northern and central regions of Afghanistan

Almaty. February 10. Silkroadnews - The Japanese government is going to allocate $1.11 million for two demining projects in the northern and central regions of Afghanistan, according to Afghan news agency (AfTAG).
Agreement on this issue was signed between the Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Takahashi, HALO Trust country director Farid Homayoun, and chairman and founder of the Afghan Technical Consultants (ATC) Kefayatullah Eblagh in the Japanese Embassy in Kabul on Monday.
Through the grant program for the mass projects (GAGP) these two projects will be implemented in the provinces of Kabul, Parwan, Baghlan and Samangan. According to preliminary data, about 1.42 million square meters of minefields shall be cleared of mines.  
Almost all the territories subject to demining are a high-quality arable land or pastures have been staying unavailable for use due to the mines for decades.
After demining, the local communities shall use them productively to contribute to reduce poverty in the country.
