Almaty. September 19. Silkroadnews – Journalists of Kazakhstan announced gathering of signatures on the petition to the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev calling to protect the Head of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan Seitkazy Matayev and General Director of KazTAG news agency Asset Matayev from lawlessness in the course of investigation and trial, KazTAG reports.

«Dear Nursultan Abishevich, we are writing to You as the guarantor of constitutional rights and human freedom appealing to protect Seitkazy and Asset Mataevs from the lawlessness, thereby to protect the freedom of speech and the rule of law in our country, which has become an outpost of democracy in Central Asia for the recent 25 years. We ask You to stop the trial on case of Seitkazy and Asset Mataevs, establish an independent committee of experts to verify the effectiveness of the state information policy implementation along with validity of indictments against Seitkazy and Asset Matayevs», the statement says.

With this it is also noted that violations of the law taking place in the course of investigation and trial do also violate the image of Kazakhstan as a whole.

«The trial against Seitkazy and Asset Matayevs clearly demonstrates the serious imperfections of the current system of promotion of the state information policy, outrage incompetence and bias of some employees of law-enforcement and judicial systems of Kazakhstan and causes serious damage to the international image of Kazakhstan as a democratic state», the document says.

The petition aslo says, the senior officials of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau openly violated the presumption of innocence from the very beginning.

«Without any particular reasons or analysis of the current practices of public information realization regarding the state orders the National Anti-Corruption Bureau officials have randomly chosen The National Press Club and the International news agency KazTAG out of hundreds of media agencies and publicly named the heads of these chosen agencies criminals long before the court, having grossly violated the presumption of innocence», the document says.

The petition also lists numerous violations of the law committed during the investigation and trial, such as the illegal house arrest of the Matayevs, violation of jurisdiction, obstacles in medical care provision for S. Matayev, ignoring the evidence presented by the defense, family ties of expert and investigator, and many others.
