Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have shown interest in the project of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway

Almaty. October 16. Silkroadnews - Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have shown interest in the project of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, reports Trend.
"Today, the Afghan side and Kazakhstan expressed their willingness to participate in the project", - said the Minister of Transport of Azerbaijan Ziya Mammadov on Thursday.
According to him, the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly offered countries to join the project of BTK.
Railway Baku-Tbilisi-Kars is constructed on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. The project is financed by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAR).
The project is planned to be completed in 2015, and at the end of this year is scheduled to launch the first test of the working of the train, said Mammadov.
Peak capacity of the corridor will be 17 million tonnes of cargo per year. At the initial stage, this figure will be at 1 million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
