Kazakhstan and Iran to build oil refinery in the port of Amirabad

Almaty. June 27. Silkroadnews – Kazakhstan and Iran plan to construct a joint refinery in the port of Amirabad in Mazandaran province, the Iranian news agency Mehr reports.

“The refinery will be constructed by both Iranian and Kazakh sides and with the oil from Kazakhstan; all necessary permits have been issued and the land is ready for construction,” Mohammad Mohammadpour, Head of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of Mazandaran, said.

Also at the meeting with Kazakhstani trade delegation he expressed readiness to cooperate with Kazakhstan in the field of grain exports and oil swap.

“Mazandaran province is interested to have oil activities in Amirabad Port and Neka and to this end, we propose to purchase petroleum products from Kazakhstan,” he added.

Amirabad is located on the territory of special economic zone (SEZ) in the north of Iran. The port is developing intensively. Getting access to the largest Central Asian markets, it became a link in the International North–South Transport Corridor.
