Kazakhstan became a member in $400-thousand project on Afghanistan's women support
Almaty. August 19. Silkroadnews – Kazakhstan, Japan and UNDP launched a project which is worth $400 thousand and aimed at improving the economic independence and rights of women in Afghanistan, Permanent Representative of the UN Development Program in Kazakhstan Norimasa Shimomura said, KazTAG reports.
«(...) Today we have signed a major project. It is called «Assistance to Kazakhstan in cooperation with Afghanistan in the area of official development assistance». We have signed it with several parties: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Japan, Afghanistan, and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)», N. Shimomura said in Astana on Friday.
He explained that for a long time Kazakhstan has been providing various assistance to other countries, and, according to recent data, it amounts to $300 million. Now the republic has decided to provide this assistance in accordance with OECD standards. The assistance will go through the official channels (so-called official development assistance).
«It will be directed to help the women of Afghanistan, especially women who are civil servants or work in the health sector», the UNDP representative noted.
He also told, the project is funded by Japan (Foundation Partnership «UNDP-Japan» – Silkroadnews) in the amount of $400 thousand, but the coordination of funds will be carried out by Kazakhstan and the UNDP. The project will also include the technical and expert supports provided by JICA.
In December 2014 Kazakhstan's president Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the law on official development assistance. The main objective of the document is the legal regulation of relations arising in the process of providing official development assistance by Kazakhstan to partner country to facilitate its economic and social development.
