Astana. May 22. Silkroadnews – Kazakhstan needs to assess pros and cons of building Nuclear Power Station, Jurgen Keinhorst from German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety says.
“…without a doubt, nuclear energy creates opportunities. However, making decisions related to such kinds of technology as a nuclear one is a political move. There is a number of criteria that are necessary to consider: those are the investment required as well as the benefits that are to be ripped. We are not recommending to develop nuclear energy in any country. However, sometimes it is chosen”, he said at the Astana Economic Forum this Wednesday.
He says, it is a general rule that the nuclear energy does positively affect health of the population in the medium- or in the long-run. Moreover, it becomes more expensive to produce than some types of renewable energy.
“…even if we are talking exclusively in economic terms, we cannot calculate the benefits of nuclear energy precisely”, Mister Keinhorst says.
As reported earlier, Kazakhstan is still planning construction of its first Nuclear Power Station.
