Kazakhstan plans to increase transshipment to Azerbaijan

Almaty. December 18. Silkroadnews - «Kazakhstan intends to increase the transportation of various cargoes across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan. This was stated at a press conference in Baku by Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Amangeldy Zhumabaev",- said in a statement.
According to him, in the Kazakh port of Kuryk is planned to build 3 new terminal, which will povide connection to Baku.
Among other goods Kazakhstan plans to increase oil transportation via Azerbaijan. Over the past year Kazakhstan transported through Azerbaijan about 3.5 million tons of oil. Most of this oil was transported by rail. However, with the beginning of the development of the Kashagan field Kazakh oil transportation via Azerbaijan will be increased.
A. Zhumabaev reminded that commercial oil at Kashagan is planned to be produced around the middle of 2016.
The Ambassador noted that Azerbaijan also plans to become a transit country. At the moment, construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, as well as a major new port Alat near Baku.
According to the diplomat, Kazakhstan's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, which will start on January 1, 2015, will not affect the trade relations of Kazakhstan with non-member countries in this integration association, including Azerbaijan.
According to him, at the beginning of next year foreign manufacturers of importing products to Kazakhstan and foreign investors, producing goods in Kazakhstan will have free duty-free access to the markets of Russia and Belarus.
According to A. Zhumabaev, this year the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan has slightly decreased.
