Kazakhstan’s President suggested to create the SCO Eurasian transit and transport hub

Almaty. June 24. Silkroadnews – President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the meeting of the SCO Council of the Heads of the State, the press service of the head of the state informed.

“I suggest creating a Eurasian transit and transport hub that will unite the SCO member states and observer states,” Akorda website quoted N. Nazarbayev saying on Friday.

With this the Kazakhstani leader noted that “Kazakhstan has already started implementing the “Nurly Zhol” program that completes the “Economic Belt of the Silk Road” initiative harmoniously.”

“It is timely to actively use the potential of the “Astana” Financial Centre we have created. It aims to become a regional financial and investment hub with an independent legal system and a preferential tax regime. It is important to use the opportunities of the Asian Bank of infrastructure investments to boost the region’s macroeconomic development. Strengthening the trade and economic, financial and investment cooperation will provide the necessary conditions to create a free trade area within the SCO framework in the long term,” the president said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also urged the meeting participants to intensify their efforts to develop the project on the SCO environmental protection cooperation concept and Action Plan.

Touching on the regional and international issues, the President noted the hotbeds of tension observed around the perimeter of the SCO external borders.
