Kazakhstan will create a ministry of information and communications to monitor the social networks

Almaty. May 6. KazTAG – Kazakhstan’s president Nursultan Nazarbayev assigned to create a ministry of information and communications, the press-service of the head of state reports.

“Today these functions are carried out not by the line ministry. There is no one in the government coordinating this sector or controlling the funds the state allocates for the information work. Thus, to overcome the current information challenges and provide the effective support of five reforms, assign to establish the authorized state body – a ministry of information and communications,” the president said at the meeting in Astana yesterday.

Nazarbayev proposed to charge the agency with the following key tasks: monitoring of information space of all forms of ownership, including online resources and social networks to promptly reveal and respond to the most urgent problems; public opinion survey on the most important topics and issues, analysis and forecast of population information requests and expectations; national information policy development.

The president also entrusted the new department with: coordination and monitoring of information activities and operation of all the government agencies; planning and analysis of effectiveness of the public information order and funds allocated by the state; attraction of investments and innovations to develop domestic mass-media as a modern segment of economy; quality improvement of domestic information products for information security – both in electronic and printed space; creation of the most effective crisis communication model; providing channels of communication with the public, including NGOs.

With this N. Nazarbayev also assigned to provide the new body with the necessary resources, allocate funds and entrust it with due powers and authority to implement all the tasks.
