Astana. June 5. Silkroadnews - Kazakhstanis are to eventually start separating garbage for recycling purposes, as Kazakh Minister of Environment and Water Resources Nurlan Kapparov hopes.
"We will not force anyone. We are hoping that people will eventually start doing it themselves. We need to install two types of different bins outside the apartment blocks: one is for food garbage, the other is for everything else", he said at the briefing this Wednesday.
The Minister admitted that he himself has not started separating garbage for recycling yet.
"No. That's because I don't have an option to send it somewhere for recycling, even if I separated it. What is the point of doing it if I don't have an opportunity to put in separate garbage bins [outside of the house]", the Minister explained.
However, he estimated that the collection of garbage for recycling purposes is to be introduced in Astana in a couple of years. At the same time, he reminded that it took Europe 30 years to set this process up.
