Kyrgyz President fears a recurrence of 2010 with transfer of power in the coming year

Almaty. March 17. Silkroadnews - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev fears a recurrence of disturbances that took part in 2010 for the transfer of presidential power in 2017, KyrTAG says.
“After a while you will elect a new president. I will hand over the reins of power. I’m concerned to avoid recurrence of the events we witnessed in 2010. Do not believe the provocateurs. If something happens, that would mean the “fine-chopped straw” has been prepared with those ready to set a fire and pour an oil standing nearby on the alert,” - said A. Atambayev in Osh at the event dedicated to new water-diverting structure opening.
He emphasized a national issue will remain the provocateurs’ main subject. Therefore, the citizens of Kyrgyzstan, whatever nationality they may be, have to get used to consider themselves as citizens of Kyrgyzstan, meaning equal citizens of a single country.
“In my village where I used to live, the Russians Zolotarevs lived across the street, the Ukrainians Goncharovs used to live to the right of our house, left of us was a house of Tursun-aka family, do not remember if they were Uzbeks or Uighurs, neighbors that lived behind our house were local Uighurs, a little further up the road there lived Russian Petr’s family, near them were our Kyrgyz neighbors. No one could even imagine splitting others into different nationality groups,” - says the president.
“And now people start divide others on the grounds of different ethnic groups or regional identity. We shall not do that; it is my appeal to you. Our ancestors never considered each other on such grounds. Now provocateurs divide people into Kyrgyz and Uzbeks, into the regions, villages, races. We shall think not about dividing people into different groups but about the nation as a whole,” - concluded the president.
