Almaty. February 17. Silkroadnews - Kyrgyzstan may receive 5-7 billion kWh due to the development of small and medium-sized hydropower plants, reports KyrTAG.
"In Kyrgyzstan flow 242 rivers.  So it is possible to produce 5-7 billion kWh of electricity at small and medium-sized hydropower plants. With the increase of tariffs we approach the coefficient of 2.1, which was set for small and medium-sized HPP. This reduces the period of payback",- said the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Industry Batyrkul Baetov at a meeting on the development of small-scale power on Tuesday.
"If we consider the projected in 2030 decline of glaciers, the role of small and medium power will grow many times", - he added.
"We have low price of electricity generated by hydropower plants, but significant payback periods. In neighboring Kazakhstan, electricity is generated on hydrocarbons and, accordingly, the price is higher, that is why the generated biogas and solar electricity is competitive", - said the State Secretary.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Industry, in 2008 the share of small-scale energy was 0.16% in the total output of Kyrgyzstan, whereas in developed countries it reaches 20%. Therefore, the country has developed a program to increase electricity generation by small sources of up to 5% by 2025.
