Kyrgyzstan not to join Customs Union, if its people opposed to this idea – Otorbayev

Bishkek. March 28. Silkroadnews – Kyrgyzstan will not join the Customs Union, if its people are opposed to such an idea. This was stated by the Acting PM of Kyrgyzstan, Jomart Otorbayev at the working session of the social-democratic faction, that is considering his candidacy for permanent PM position
“I assure you that Kyrgyzstan is not to join the Customs Union, if its people are opposed to the idea”, he stated
He noticed that Kyrgyz society is very divided when it comes to the issue of Customs Union membership. Many people are for it, and many people are against it.
“Before joining the Customs Union, we need to listen to our people. If our society is against Customs Union membership, we won’t be joining it against people’s will”, he highlighted.
There are certain steps the government intends to undertake before signing up for membership, Mister Otorbayev informed. Firstly, the consultation is to be held to weight all the pros and cons of joining the Customs Union. Secondly, the terms of Kyrgyzstan’s membership need to be negotiated with existing members.
