Kyrgyzstan uses only 1% of potential of the renewable energy sources

Almaty. March 12. Silkroadnews - Kyrgyzstan uses only 1% of the potential of renewable energy sources (RES), reports KyrTAG.
"Hydropotential of our country allows us annual production of 142 billion kWh of electricity, but we on average produces only 12-15 billion kWh. We have coal deposits, gas and oil, which should be extracted. It is also possible to receive 1.8 billion kWh of renewable energy through, we use just 1% of RES", - said Adviser to the Minister of Energy and Industry Marat Cholponkulov at a roundtable on Thursday.
He stressed that Kyrgyzstan is heavily dependent on electricity generated by hydropower plants.
"Today, in Kyrgyzstan, 93% of the total volume of electricity produced by HPP and 7% in the CHP", - he added.
