Leaders of China and Taiwan met for the first time in six years

Almaty. May 4. Silkroadnews - Chinese leader Xi Jinping and the chairman of Taiwan's ruling party Kuomintang Eric Chu held talks in Beijing.
"This was the first meeting between the two leaders in six years", - writes the BBC Russian Service on Monday.
Chinese state television showed footage of the two smiling politicians shaking hands in the House of the People.
Meanwhile, according to Xinhua News Agency, the General Secretary of the Central Committee Xi Jinping at the meeting with Chairman of the Kuomintang Zhu Lilun, said that the Chinese mainland and Taiwan can properly consider the participation of the island in regional economic cooperation on the basis of commitment to the principle of one China.
"From the Taiwan side was expressed the desire to join the Asian Bank of infrastructure investments. We welcome this",- said Xi Jinping.
He pointed out that mainland of China is ready to share the first chance of the development of Taiwan compatriots and to give priority to the island in the external openness.
"We will continue to protect the legitimate rights and interests on the mainland enterprises with the participation of Taiwanese capital creating better conditions for their development", - stated Xi Jinping.
Recall Taiwan split from China after the civil war in 1949. China still considers the island its province.
However, the economic relations between the two countries have improved since coming to power of the Kuomintang in 2008.
