More than 11 thousand civilian casualties were recorded in the Afghan hostilities in 2016

Almaty. February 6. Silkroadnews – The number of civilian casualties recorded in the Afghan hostilities in 2016 reached nearly 11.5 thousand people, which is the highest since 2009, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reports.

According to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), last year Afghan hostilities left 3,498 civilians dead and 7,920 others wounded. The data documents a 2% decrease in number of civilian deaths and a 6% increase in number of people wounded, as compared to 2015.

With this, the UN mission representatives note, the number of children hurt or killed raised 24% and amounted to 3,5 thousand. Nearly a half of this terrific number are casualties throughout fighting between rebels and government forces, the others resulted from explosion of unexploded bombs and other ordnances.

The number of civilian casualties resulted from the IS subversive activities has increased 10 times compared to 2015.
