Almaty. September 7. Silkroadnews – More than 4 thousand people have been brought to justice for environmental violations in China, “People’s Daily” reported.
“China has held 4,129 people accountable for poor environmental protection after the latest round of inspections, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP)”, the report said.
It is noted that eight inspection teams reported on the violations revealed during the 4th round of environmental inspections that covered the provinces of Jilin, Zhejiang, Shandong, Hainan, Sichuan, Qinghai, and Tibet and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Areas.
Reportedly, the inspectors examined more than 18,500 cases. As a result, 285 people were detained, the total amount of fines reached 280 million yuan (about US$43 million). Currently, the inspection continues, the number of people to be held accountable is to increase.
The agency reminds, China started using the environmental inspections practice in 2016 as decades of economic growth have brought the country into smog and soil contamination problems. Last year, the inspectors examined 33,000 cases, the amount of fines imposed totaled 440 million yuan. A total of 720 people were detained, close to 6,500 were held accountable.
Green development is one of the five development concepts provided in China’s 13th Five-Year Plan period for 2016-2020. along with innovation, coordination, opening up and sharing.
