Beijing. April 11. Silkroadnews - More than 80 people died consuming poisoned counterfeit alcohol in Indonesia, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reported citing Bloomberg.
More than 80 people died in Indonesia consuming counterfeit alcohol in the last month, the number of dead was more than 20 people over the past day alone, the Indonesian police spokesman said.
Reportedly, the province of West Java, where more than 50 people were killed, suffered most as a result of poisoning with counterfeit alcohol. In the capital of the country – Jakarta – 31 people died.
The state clinic in one of the suburbs of Bandung, the capital of Western Java, recorded 93 people with such poisoning in the last month.
The production of counterfeit alcohol is a widespread illegal business in Indonesia, where high taxes on alcohol are imposed under the pressure of conservative Muslim circles. Some governments warn tourists going to the Indonesian islands of Bali and Lombok to be careful with local hot drinks.
