Beijing. January 31. Silkroadnews - Most cases of Internet fraud in China are related to job offers and finances, China Daily reports.
“Most cases of fraud in China involved fake part-time job information and online financial products in 2017, according to a report from Qihoo 360,” the publication reads.
Last year, the Beijing Public Security Bureau received 24,260 online fraud reports, a 17.6% increase over the previous year.
The majority of cases - 3,804 - were related to fake ads on recruiting part-time employees, followed by cases of fake online financial services and sales. Economic losses generated by such fraud reached more than 350 million yuan ($54.7 million).
“As people tend to use the internet to shop, earn money and make daily life more convenient, swindlers take advantage of online products and services to steal money,” the Qihoo 360 report said.
People have been recommended to pay more attention when buying online financial products, as the number of fraud cases related to such transactions is increasing.
The report says that about 70% of fraud victims were men, and 43% were born in the 1990s.
