Beijing. January 12. Silkroadnews - Most of the murders in recent riots in Iran occurred under suspicious circumstances, the chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major-General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, says, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports with reference to Tasnim News Agency.
“Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri warned of enemy plots to blame the government for the deaths in recent riots, most of which, he said, occurred in suspicious circumstances,” the report said.
Major-General Baqeri condemned the accusations the U.S. made against Iran. He stressed, the country, which itself serves a symbol of oppression of people and has a long history of barbarism and crimes against humanity, has no right to blame the state, whose officials have been elected by the people.
He further noted, when handling the riots none of the security forces had any combat weapons to fight the demonstrators.
Major-General Baqeri also said that most of the deaths during the riots are suspicious, as the people killed have been shot from behind and these murders were filmed in unknown areas.
At the end of December, peaceful protests broke out in a number of Iranian cities over the economic problems, but the gatherings turned into riots when groups of participants, some of whom were armed, vandalized public property and launched attacks on police stations and government buildings.
According to security forces, many of the rioters arrested during recent riots have been trained by terrorists or had links with the terrorist groups.
After the riots, the people held several demonstrations throughout the country to condemn acts of vandalism and express support for the Islamic Republic.
Iranian officials say, people have the right to protest to express their opinion, as long as they do not violate the law.
