Nearly 50 policemen convicted for torture in Kazakhstan in 2013

Astana. March 28. Silkroadnews – Nearly 50 policemen were convicted for torture in 2013, as Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Nurmanbet Isayev reports.
“Incidents of torture that are still prevalent remain to be a serious problem, as they undermine trust of our population… Prosecutors have adequately responded and will continue to adequately respond to such incidents. Just in 2013 alone, 52 criminal cases of such nature were filed in court with 46 policemen convicted as a result”, he stated at the briefing this Friday.
19 police torture cases are currently being investigated, he also informed.
