Nearly five thousand people detained in China for stealing personal data

Almaty. July 19. Silkroadnews – Nearly five thousand people were detained in China for stealing personal data since March this year, South China Morning Post reports.
“Police have arrested more than 4,800 suspects nationwide since March for stealing personal information, the Ministry of Public Security said. In the more than four months of operations, police said they had resolved more than 1,800 cases involving some 50 billion pieces of stolen personal information”, the report said.
As reported, the main source of the information stolen was employees of companies and government agencies that illegally received and sold databases. Subsequently, the stolen personal data were used by other criminals for targeted fraud or extortion.
