Newly-married couples to be obliged to enter into a marriage contract in Tajikistan

Almaty. November 17. Silkroadnews – Newly-married couples may be required to enter into a marriage contract in Tajikistan, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported on Thursday.

“Tajikistan has developed amendments to the Family Code providing for a mandatory marriage contract for those who are getting married”, the publication says.

Previously such a contract was solely an issue of decision by the couple.

The authors of the amendments concerned with a large number of divorces in the country noted that the mandatory marriage contract is expected to save many families.

They also believe that such practices will help to protect the spouses from many of the problems in case of divorce, in particular, will exclude situations when after a divorce one of the spouses is left with no material support.
