Number of mainland China tourists fell sharply in Taiwan
Almaty. October 12. Silkroadnews - The number of mainland China tourists fell sharply in Taiwan, the Xinhua news agency reported.
“About 1.75 million people from the Chinese mainland visited Taiwan from January to August, down by over one third year on year,” the report said.
It is noted that to support its tourism market, Taiwan is trying to attract tourists from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia and New Zealand. This move, however, does not close the gap appeared. The data shows that tourists from the Chinese mainland spend almost $200 per person in Taiwan every day, while daily spending by tourists from Southeast Asia makes around $150 only.
Online survey showed that more than 400 hotels around the island were put up for sale after a sharp drop in the number of customers.
“Over six million people were estimated to have traveled overseas, with Moscow, St. Petersburg, Bangkok, Pattaya and Singapore being the most popular cities, according to the China National Tourism Administration,” the report reads.
