Almaty. April 3. Silkroadnews - Chairman of the oppositional National Social-Democratic Party (NSDP), Jarmakhan Tuyakbay, calls for the nation-wide discussion on Eurasian Union and its membership conditions.
"We are calling for a public forum on Eurasian Union membership agreement and conditions stipulated in it. Customs Union membership needs to be publicly evaluated as well. The methods for such evaluation may even include referendum. Until a thorough evaluation of Customs Union membership is completed, we need moratorium on any kinds of integration with The Russian Federation", Mister Tuyakbay's open letter to President Nazarbayev states.
The letter highlights the fact that the agreement on creation of Eurasian Economic Union is to be evaluated by the relatively small group of people, who expertise in these issues.
"Therefore, such a milestone in modern Kazakh history and lives of its citizens can happen without any sort of public participation", the letter claims.
Mister Tuyakbay thinks that it's possible to coordinate Russian, Belorussian and Kazakh policies within existing framework of Customs Union and Common Economic Space.
"Three year experience of being a Customs Union member has clearly shown that Kazakh economy is not ready for such developmental path...budget deficit keeps rising, SMEs are increasingly under tremendous pressure, while tariffs and prices are rising faster than disposable incomes. We have observed devaluation of tenge that has led to the loss of people's confidence in national currency", Mister Tuyakbay highlights.
Moreover, he expressed his concerns over possibility of Russian rubble becoming common currency of the Eurasian Economic Union. He reckons it could lead to USSR recreation.
