Over next four years donor countries will allocate $15.2 billion to Afghanistan's development
Almaty. October 6. Silkroadnews – At the international conference in Brussels donor countries have pledged $15.2 billion in aid to contribute to Afghanistan's development, Russian office of BBC reports.
«I want you to know that you do not have to go this route alone. It is not the time now to reduce our ambitions and our investments in the Afghan people», European Union Development Commissioner Neven Mimica said.
Despite the international donors' attention has been shifted to the war in Syria, the amount this year is slightly less compared to one gathered four years ago at the Tokyo conference, he added. That time donors pledged $16 billion aid to Afghanistan.
In exchange for the international community's funds Afghanistan should implement reforms to combat corruption and improve the human rights situation.
In addition, Kabul agreed to speed up the process of hosting the Afghan migrants returning from Europe.
The Afghan army and security forces are currently fighting with the Taliban throughout a half of 34 Afghan provinces.
The conference on Afghanistan has been attended by representatives from more than 70 countries and 20 international organizations.
