Pakistan’s export to Afghanistan has halved in two years
Beijing. March 5. Silkroadnews - Over the past two years Pakistan has lost more than 50% of its share in the Afghan market, Zubair Motiwala, chairman of Pakistani-Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
He stressed, during the current period the volume of exports to Afghanistan fell from $2.7 billion to $1.2 billion due to growing role India and China start playing at the Afghan market, Pajhwok news agency reports.
Reduction of supplies, Motiwala added, has been observed even in such traditional sectors as supply of flour, red meat and clothes, resulted in shutting down nearly 100 flour mills out of 200. Besides, Afghans who used to go to Peshawar for medical treatment, start preferring to go to India now.
At the same time, the reports by the State Bank of Pakistan showed, imports to Afghanistan increased from $40 million in 2016 to $68 million in 2017.
